Best of all, it’s pretty easy to set up strong, unique passwords that aren’t easily repeated across your accounts. Here, we’ll take a look at a few settings to make your Android experience even better.
1. Add a Google Password Manager shortcut to your home screen
It can be frustrating at times to have to switch between apps and open the Google Password Manager web page only to access your full list of passwords. Luckily, there’s a simple solution: just add the Google Password Manager shortcut to your home screen. Here’s how:

- Faucet To addor drag the shortcut to position it anywhere on your device’s home screen.
2. Create a custom passphrase to encrypt your data
If you use Google Chrome, consider setting up a custom passphrase to encrypt your data. This can be a useful feature if you don’t want to see your passwords online. Here’s how:
- Launch the Google Chrome app on your smartphone.
- In the upper right corner, click on the three-dot menu and go to Settings.
- Then press To sychronize. In the Advanced section, select encryption.
- In the confirmation screen, select Encrypt synced data with your own sync passphrase.
- Create a new passphrase, confirm and press to safeguard.
- Once done, your passwords will no longer be visible on the Google Password Manager website.
- To reverse the process, follow steps 1 through 4. Press Reset sync in the confirmation screen, then select Erase data.
3. Check for compromised passwords
You can use a password manager on your Android device to save time by helping you create strong passwords, facilitate quick web logins, and store them all in one place. It’s also important to make sure your passwords are strong.
Google’s Password Manager can help you check your existing passwords to let you know if there are any weak or vulnerable ones, as well as alert you to security issues on your devices/accounts.
To keep your online accounts secure, avoid reusing passwords. If your password is compromised, it could lead to unauthorized logins and access to a multitude of sites. To check for compromised passwords, follow the steps outlined below:
- In your mobile browser, navigate to the Google Password Manager website.
- Select Go to Verify Password > Verify Passwords.
- You will need to verify your biometrics/screen lock pattern for your Google account. Faucet Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
- The process will take a few seconds to complete. You will get a list of sites, those with reused passwords, weak passwords and compromised passwords. You can change them immediately using the Change password possibility, if necessary.
4. Export your passwords
As we noted earlier, if you’re not careful, passwords can pose a security risk. Consider downloading your passwords to a CSV file or exporting them to other Android password manager apps, especially if you’re setting up a new device or need to export your data to backup purposes. Here’s how:
- On your mobile browser, navigate to the Google Password Manager website.
- Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Export passwords.
- Click the arrow to the right. In the pop-up window, tap Export to confirm.
- Next, you will be asked to verify your Google account credentials or your biometrics/screen lock. Faucet Continue and follow the onscreen instructions to verify your account.
- Once you have successfully logged in, the download process will start automatically.
- You can now download the file in CSV format to your device’s local storage.
