Android tablets are experiencing something of a renaissance, with renewed interest in software and from hardware manufacturers. If you’re looking to buy a tablet this holiday season, these are the best Android tablets to choose from.
The best Android tablets – November 2022
9to5Google’s picks for the best Android tablets are based on value, performance, length of software support, and US availability.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Series
If you really want the best of the best when it comes to Android tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra are the best choices.
All three run on the super-powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, have plenty of storage and a microSD card slot, and have big, bright displays. The Tab S8 has an 11-inch LCD display while the Tab S8+ and Tab S8 Ultra both feature AMOLED displays. The Tab S8+ measures 12.4 inches while the Ultra reaches a truly massive screen size of 14.6 inches. All three also include an S Pen in the box.
You’ll get Android 13 on all three tablets from November 2022, with software support lasting four years on major Android updates and five years on security updates, starting when the tablet first comes out. of 2022.
Of course, all three have a price. The Galaxy Tab S8 starts at $699, the Tab S8+ at $899, and the Tab S8 Ultra at $1,099. For Black Friday, however, there are some great deals including the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra for hundreds off.
Amazon Fire tablet
On the other end of the spectrum, the Amazon Fire Tablet series is a great choice for exceptional value. Each tablet runs on a heavily modified version of Android that uses the Amazon Appstore instead of the Google Play Store, which is perhaps the biggest problem.
But for streaming movies, playing games, reading books, or browsing the web in general, Amazon Fire tablets are a great option that start at around $50 and often much less during the holidays. There’s even a special edition for kids that comes with a protective case and a replacement guarantee.
Samsung Galaxy Tab A8
A more affordable option for a feature-packed Play Store-equipped tablet is the Galaxy Tab A8. Samsung’s affordable tablet features a 10.5-inch screen, USB-C charging, 128GB of storage and an affordable price of $229, up to $149 for Black Friday.
Alternatively, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite has a smaller 8.7-inch screen and is priced at $159, but that’s $99 for Black Friday.
Perhaps the biggest asterisk on these tablets is the software update policy, which will only give a few major Android updates and less frequent security patches.
Lenovo P12 Pro
An alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S8 series on the high end is the Lenovo P12 Pro. It has a 12.6-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 870 processor, and an included stylus. The P12 Pro launched with Android 11, but Android 12L is on the way. It’s a great alternative and left us quite happy. It also includes Google’s Entertainment Space and other tablet-exclusive features. It usually retails for $750, but can be found for less.

Or… maybe just buy an iPad
While Android tablets are getting a lot better, it’s still pretty clear that the best tablet for anyone, even those with an Android phone, is Apple’s iPad. You get years of major updates, a robust library of apps and games optimized for the big screen, and software that takes advantage of the big screen better than more Android tablets.
The most affordable iPad is the $329 9th generation iPad, which is often on sale. For Black Friday, it’s just $270.
The next step up from there is the 10th generation iPad, which has a revamped design and costs $449. The iPad Air and iPad Pro further improve features and performance for higher prices. You can learn more about 9to5Mac.
