To make an image transparent in PowerPoint, right-click the image. Go to Format Picture… > Picture > Picture Transparency. Use the Transparency % value slider or window to change the transparency of the selected image.

In the right panel, there are four icon tabs: fill and line (tub), Effects (Pentagon), Size and properties (square being measured), and Photo (photograph).

Use the Transparency slider to change the transparency of your image.

When you are done, close the right panel by clicking on the X.

How to Make a Background Image Transparent in PowerPoint

The process for making a background image transparent is the same as for any other transparent image in PowerPoint. Right-click the background image, then navigate to Format image…. Click it Photo then use the tab Image Transparency option to change the transparency of your background.
