How to shut down and restart the Google Pixel 7

You bought the Pixel 7 but you don’t know how to turn it off or restart it? Here are some ways to shut down your phone and restart it if needed.

The Google Pixel 7 is undeniably one of the best Android smartphones of 2022, but how do users turn off and restart the device? Google continues to add new features and capabilities to its smartphones every year. While Google Pixel 6 introduced exclusive features like Magic Eraser and Face Unblur to remove distractions from photographic backgrounds and take much clearer photos, Google has taken it to the next level with the Tensor G2-toting series Pixel 7, adding Cinematic Mode, Real Tone enhancements and Photo Unblur. The latest Pixels also have an updated look, with Google replacing the glass visor on the back with a metal camera housing to give the devices a premium look.


Something that hasn’t changed from the Google Pixel 6 series to the Pixel 7 devices is the way to turn off or restart the phone. The easiest way to turn off a Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro is to open the notification center. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open Notification Center, then swipe again to access additional settings. Tap the power icon in the lower right corner and select ‘Switch off‘ in the menu that appears.

Users can also power off Pixel 7 devices by holding down the power and volume up buttons simultaneously for a few seconds and selecting the “Power off” option on the screen. The power button seems misnamed considering the additional buttons users have to press to turn off the device. But there is a way to simplify things and turn off the Pixel 7 by holding down the power button.

Go to ‘Settings,’ scroll to ‘System,‘ and go to ‘Power button.‘ To select ‘Press and hold the power button,‘ in the place of ‘Hold for assistant.‘ Hold down the power button until the context menu appears on the screen, then select the ‘Switch off‘ option. The context menu also has an option for ‘To restart‘ the device. After users press the Restart button, the Pixel 7 automatically shuts down and boots. The Google Assistant on the Pixel 7 can also be used to turn off the phone. Users who have set up “Hey Google” detection can wake up their Google Assistant and ask to turn off their device.

While these are the ways to turn off the Pixel 7, turning the device on is much easier. Simply press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the device boots up. The methods for transforming the Pixel 7 and the on and off Pixel 7 Pro devices mentioned here also work with its predecessors.
