OnePlus 7 series finally gets OxygenOS Android 12 update three years after launch

OnePlus 7 and 7T series users are now getting their hands on Android 12-based OxygenOS 12.1, two months after Google rolled out the all-new Android 13.

But it should be noted that these Android phones, the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, as well as the 7T and 7T Pro, are already three-year-old devices.

OnePlus 7, 7T series: three-year-old Android phones

According to the recent Notebook Check report, Chinese phone giant, OnePlus, unveiled its 7 and 7T series in 2019 in major smartphone markets including the US, UK and India.

The outlet notes that the 7 and 7T series have made a huge mark on the general smartphone market. These OnePlus mobile devices are one of the latest phones to rock pop-up selfie cameras, which ditched the punch-hole design, making its display more transparent.

However, these three-year-old phones have been stuck with Android 11 for quite a while. To be more specific, Notebook Check notes that 7 and 7T users have been using the older mobile OS for about a year and a half.

But this time, OnePlus has finally released a new update to its 2019 flagship devices by rolling out Android 12-based OxygenOS 12.1 to the 7 and 7T lineup.

According to a report from GSM Arena, the giant phone maker started beta testing Android on its older devices in the past few weeks. And as such, users of these phones could only get their hands on a buggy and unstable version of OxygenOS 12.1.

However, OnePlus has already finished beta testing its three-year-old phones and started releasing the new update on the stable channel, allowing users to get their hands on Android 12.

GSM Arena notes in its report that Android 12 beta testers for 7 and 7T series are getting the update earlier than others. But people under the stable option could also get their hands on it in the next few days or a few more weeks.
