Sony unveils two new Android-compatible Walkman products
Long before streaming services and iTunes, the Sony Walkman was the premier device for listening to music on the go. While the classic design and product have a very small market in the modern age, the legacy of the Walkman continues with the launch of two new Walkman family products coming out this year.
Although the latest design does not offer the ability to play cassette tapes, Sony has worked hard to create a physical appearance that replicates the characteristics of the original product. Equipped with a headphone jack, a cord slot, an SD card slot and external physical buttons that control most functions, the new product works hard to combine the nostalgia of the iconic product with a feel and modern use. For this latest version, two separate designs have been announced and they also come with separate prices. The new models to be released are the NW-A300 and NW-ZX700.
The Walkman NW-A300 model is the update of the 2019 Walkman version and now offers Android technology, longer battery life and better internal chips. Featuring a 3.6-inch 1280 x 720 touchscreen LCD, 32GB of storage, 802.11AC Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5, and promises 36 hours of battery life for 44.1kHz FLAC playback or up to at 32 hours of 96kHz FLAC, the NW-A300 sells for $430. The NW-ZX700 is the more powerful of the two models, with a larger design, it houses an amplifier as well as a 4.4mm headphone jack and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. The NW-ZX700 is priced significantly higher at $820, but Sony has put together a great product video to fully demonstrate the value of the product.
Whether you’re a fan of the original Walkman and want to add a new one to the collection, or you’re curious about owning a standalone digital media player, Sony and the Walkman line of products are definitely a great place to start.
