Nokia may be one of the most popular names in the mobile phone industry, but the story is not the same when it comes to smartphones.

Unlike Samsung and Apple who have huge fanbases, few people own a Nokia smartphone today. But for the few who own one, we have news for you.

Depending on the model you have, the new Android 12 update may or may not be available for your Nokia device when the operating system begins to officially roll out.

Nokia Android 12 update release date

Nokia did not participate in the previous Android 11 beta testing program, which hinted that the Finnish company may have slacked off on timely software updates.

As a result of this decision, the stable update to Android 11 for Nokia devices was the slowest we’ve seen since the company returned with Android One.

In fact, companies like Samsung, Xiaomi, and even Oppo that were once notorious for slow updates are now ahead of Nokia. And it doesn’t look like any improvements are in line for the Nokia Android 12 update rollout.

Google released the first developer preview in mid-February and will continue to release new builds until May, when the public beta goes live.

It is not yet known if Nokia will provide an early version of Android 12 to some of its devices. But as noted, that’s unlikely to be the case, at least based on what happened last year.

That said, the Android 12 update release might take a similar period of time as Android 11 to start rolling out to eligible devices, but of course we’ll update this article once we have official information.

List of eligible/supported devices

Speaking of eligible devices, several of them will be upgraded to Android 12. After all, Nokia is still using Android One and we all know what the program promises in terms of OS updates.

For the uninitiated, all Android One devices are getting two major updates to the Android operating system. This means that for any Android One-based Nokia device pre-installed with Android 11 out of the box, an update to Android 12 is guaranteed.

The same goes for Nokia devices powered by Android One that come with Android 10, as they still have a major OS update after receiving the update to Android 11.

As for the Nokia devices we believe will be upgraded to Android 12, check out the list below:

A few other Nokia devices that might miss an update to Android 12 include Nokia C3, Nokia C1 Plus, Nokia 2 V Tella, Nokia C5 Endi, Nokia C2 Tennen, and Nokia C2 Tava.

Again, none of this information is official, so we still have to wait for Nokia to confirm its Android 12 eligible devices and when to expect the update to roll out.

Update 1 (May 19, 2021)

IST 09:55 Nokia has officially entered the Android 12 program with the recently launched Nokia X20 and is expected to receive the update in the second half of 2021.

It’s important to note that Nokia kept its distance from the Android 11 developer program last year, but with this news, we expect things to be much better for other Nokia devices this year as well.

Update 2 (July 16, 2021)

STI 10:30 a.m.: While Google has already rolled out the Android 12 Beta 3 update to eligible devices, Nokia has yet to release the Android 12 Developer Preview for Nokia X20 users.

Update 3 (August 14, 2021)

IST 3:35 p.m.: Nokia X20 users might find some comfort knowing that the device was recently spotted running Android 12 on Geekbench. This may mean that we will soon see the developer preview go live for the device. But take that with a grain of salt. More details here.

IST 3:00 p.m.: Well, better late than never, right? Nokia has finally released an Android 12 developer preview for the Nokia X20. More on that here.

Update 5 (September 20, 2021)

IST 1:42 p.m.: As we get closer to the official stable release of Android 12, Nokia is said to have kicked off its development.

This is because new reports indicate that a first Android 12 update for Nokia X10 5G is on the cards as the company tests Android 12 update on Nokia X10. More on that here.

Update 6 (06 November 2021)

STI 10:24: The upcoming Nokia G50 is spotted on Geekbench running the latest Android 12 operating system. That means this could be the first handset from Nokia to come with Android 12 pre-installed.

Update 6 (December 15, 2021)

IST 5:24 p.m.: The Nokia X20 becomes HMD’s first smartphone to receive a stable Android 12 update.

The update is rolling out in waves, and the first wave includes 27 regions where the rollout will end until December 17. More information here.

10:04 a.m. (IST): Nokia G20 has been spotted on Geekbench running Android 12. This indicates that the company may release Android 12 update for this handset soon.

Update 15 (March 29, 2022)

1:28 p.m. (IST): Nokia XR20 users are now receive Android 12 update. It comes with a huge update size of around 2GB and can be identified with the latest software version 2_300.

Update 16 (April 11, 2022)

5:55 p.m. (IST): Nokia T20 tablet appeared on Geekbench running Android 12. This means that the company is working to bring the latest operating system to this tablet.

Update 17 (April 27, 2022)

6:18 p.m. (IST): The global Nokia 8.3 5G units are now getting the Android 12 update. Moreover, it also brings the April 2022 security patch.
