What do you want to know
- YouTube Music appears to be rolling out a new design for playlists on the homepage.
- The new look shows a new playlist card that shows more details about a playlist.
- It provides information about a playlist’s creator, number of songs, three songs in the playlist, and quick action buttons.
YouTube Music currently displays playlists the same as other songgroups in the home tab, but they may change their look soon. The service appears to be pushing a new homepage design for playlists that displays them as cards with more information.
Spotted by 9to5Google (opens in a new tab)some users (opens in a new tab) have apparently had access to the new YouTube Music card which makes playlists more visible in the home tab. It’s currently unknown how widely available the new design is, as it’s likely still in testing.
For those lucky enough to see the nifty refresh, the app should now display a playlist card in the home feed with an illustration of the playlist in the top left corner, the owner of the playlist playing time, number of songs and three songs included in the playlist. At the bottom is a row of action buttons that let you play a song, start the radio, and add a song to your own playlist.
If this rolls out to the public, it will mark a huge step up from the typical tabbed home screen design, in which only carousels with album art and artists are displayed. This will make it easier to discover songs included in a playlist instead of just seeing the artist. In other words, it can act as an icebreaker for an otherwise monotonous homepage layout.
The service has gone through various changes in the past, with the aim of making it easier for subscribers to discover in order to compete with top music streaming apps. YouTube Music recently improved its Song Radio algorithm to help you discover new artists and more.
Last year, the service added a Playlist Discovery feature that recommends a mix of curated and user-generated playlists at the bottom of your personal playlists.
